Accessibility Statement
Web accessibility is a vitally important set of best practices to get to grips with when learning web development and as such Scrimba takes care to demonstrate those best practices — both in its courses and in its platform. Scrimba is continually improving its user experience for everyone, and taking steps toward applying the relevant accessibility standards.
Measures taken to improve accessibility
Scrimba takes pride in engaging with users, answering feedback, and implementing measures to ensure the accessibility of scrimba.com. These measures include:
- Implementing a keyboard control and navigation system to allow keyboard users to access the platform.
- Launching a captioning system to provide users who cannot hear the screencast with a readable text equivalent.
- Incrementally improving the semantics of the platform’s underlying markup and using WAI-ARIA features to provide semantic enhancements, to improve the general compatibility of scrimba.com with assistive technologies such as screen readers.
- Designing our UI so that it has sufficient color contrast.
- Offering accessibility training to our staff.
- Including people with disabilities in our design personas.
Technical specifications and compatibility
Scrimba.com is designed to be compatible with the three most recent versions of modern browsers. It relies on the following technologies to work with these browsers and any assistive technologies installed on your computer:
- HTML
- WAI-ARIA
- CSS
- JavaScript
Conformance status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Scrimba has not yet started formal accessibility testing for v2 of its platform, but this has been added to our roadmap, and we are aiming to conform to WCAG 2.1 AA.
